Devlog #2 Week 6
This week we had a major breakdown of our game in that the game was interpreted by each team member differently than what the game was supposed to be. This meant that we were not aligned in the overall gameplay aspect and as a result the rulebook and in game mechanics were unbalanced. This resulted in an emergency meeting in which we all had sat down and firstly aligned ourselves with the rules of the game and making the correct changes in the rulebook. This also meant that some of the cards needed to be tweaked and so this was the remainder of time spent in the meeting addressing. Thankfully, our perspectives were not too misaligned and so the overall game was still relatively similar to what we had originally designed. A few changes to the assignment cards as well as minor tweaks to some of the action cards meant that the game was working as intended right before we started playtesting round 2.
This meant that my job of doing the playtesting resulted in gathering accurate feedback that we could implement accordingly. As I was designated playtesting, my job went smoothly as there was less confusion in the rulebook and in the game and because of the major breakdown we had, I was able to smoothly run playtesting without any additional trouble that would otherwise have been unnecessary. Had we not taken the time to play our game, my playtest would have been useless as the play testers themselves would not have understood our game as we would not have accurately portrayed it. Thankfully this was dealt with before hand and everything is back to running smoothly for the remainder of the semester.
Moving forward, I plan to encourage our team to play our game ourselves even more so that we continue to have an accurate representation of what our game looks and plays like in its current iteration so that we can continue to do all our jobs in an effective and efficient manner.
